PIH.

Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation. What many of us get after a zit or two.

Despite our best-disciplined effort in keeping to a stringent skin-care regimen, acne is bound to strike. This is especially true for many women who are plagued by these pesky zits either before or after their menstrual cycle. During these periods, the drop in estrogen trigger the sebaceous glands to secrete more sebum. These increase sebum secretion can result in clogged pores and skin inflammation which attracts acne causing bacteria.

Excess sweating, pollution, genetic, and skincare products can cause an acne breakout that, unfortunately, result in dark brown scars or worse – deep acne scars.

HOW TO PREVENT SCARRING?

Unfortunately, there is no fool-proof way to prevent the formation of scars. However, there are steps one can take to treat and prevent post-acne scarring from getting darker:

  • Sunscreen: Sun exposure darkens post-acne brown marks. Hence, applying a broad-spectrum sunblock can prevent the worsening of brown marks.
  • Hydroquinone Cream: It is a lightening agent which ingredients are recognised by the US FDA as safe and effective for pigmentations when used in 2% concentration. Hydrquinone is generally well tolerated except those with sensitive skin may experience excessive dryness and skin irritation.
  • Chemical Peels that contains glycolic or salicylic acid.

CAUSES OF ACNE SCARS

Trauma is caused to the skin and the tissue beneath during acne breakouts. These traumas are later repaired by our bodies. Collagen is produced by our bodies during reparation. Insufficient or excessive collagen production during this process result in a scar. Depressed scars are formed when too little collagen is being produced. Conversely, too much collagen produced during healing will result in raised acne scars.

TYPES OF SCARS CAUSED BY ACNE

  • Ice-pick scars are deep pitted scars that are often less than 2mm wide. As the name implied, the scar looks like an ice pick has pricked a hole in the skin.
  • Rolling scars have sloping edges and varying depths. Therefore, making the skin look bumpy.
  • Boxcar scars are broad box-like depressions that are formed after acne breakout. In fact, it is the most common type of acne scars.
  • Hypertrophic or keloid scars are bumpy lumps of scar tissue where the active acne was.

How It Works

Step 1

Whenever acne is formed and becomes inflamed, other healthy surrounding tissues will get affected and get damaged. Sometimes your body is unable to produce sufficient collagen to replace these damaged tissues. This cause depressed acne scars to form.

Step 2

Our effective acne scar removal delivers fractional CO2 laser into the scarred areas, deep into the middle layer of the skin, removing the outer layers of damaged skin.

Step 3

This procedure stimulate collagen production which help the pitted holes to be healed quickly over time. The surrounding healthy tissues will remain unaffected and intact by the treatment.

Step 4

Your skin’s structure and texture will improve and look visibly smoother. Best results are typically seen after a few sessions, depending on individual’s skin condition.

Step 1

Whenever acne is formed and becomes inflamed, other healthy surrounding tissues will get affected and get damaged. Sometimes your body is unable to produce sufficient collagen to replace these damaged tissues. This cause depressed acne scars to form.

Step 2

Our effective acne scar removal procedure places a needle into your skin, moving it back and forth to detach the fibrous bands in the plane between the dermis and subcutaneous tissue that holds down the depressed scars.

Step 3

The fibrous bands are now broken up and the depressed scar is now released from the horizontal plane. Skinboosters are then injected to add volume into the depressed area and help to rejuvenates the skin and restore the skin’s hydrobalance.

Step 4

Your skin’s structure and elasticity will improve and look visibly smoother. Best results are typically seen after a few sessions, depending on individual’s skin condition.

Trial session does not include subcision with skinbooster treatment.
